Why stop the fleas?

Stopthefleasblog.com came about because of three very personal reasons.

  • My concern and love for two very special little dogs in our family, Zoi Ross (Maltese) and Winston Cooke (Yorkshire Terrier), both of which, if bitten by fleas, suffer from flea allergy dermatitis.
  • Due to hereditary factors Zoi and Winston have compromised immune systems yet in the conventional world of veterinary practice, the fact that fleas and ticks prefer to attach themselves to pets with compromised immune systems in preference to healthy animals, is rarely disclosed to pet owners.
  • My passion is to encourage pet owners to adopt a holistic approach in the care of their precious pets. In particular, to use a natural flea, tick and mosquito protection as opposed to putting toxic drugs and medication into or on their pets' bodies, e.g. Trifexis.

The purpose of this website is to provide pet owners with a source of free information about fleas.

Here we discuss everything about fleas, from their life cycles and habitats to the diseases they carry; and most importantly how to get rid of their presence on your pets, in your homes and outside yards and gardens.

Did you know by using natural flea and tick protection you can add up to another 25% to yous dog's life span?

Click here to read about natural methods and products we recommend that are completely safe and will not harm your pets, your kids, yourself and or your plants.

Risks connected to the use of chemical flea and tick prevention drugs and medication

Trifexis killed my dog

Pet owners who have dogs with fleas, flea allergies and or flea and tick related skin problems are regularly spending hundreds of dollars with their veterinarians on a variety of drugs.

  • Chemical flea protection products.
  • Steroids for treating flea allergies.
  • Antibiotics for treating bacterial infections and hot spots.
  • Tranquilizers to sooth the itchiness and emotional trauma and stress caused by infestations.

The sad but all too truthful fact, is that these toxic chemicals, drugs and medications take a very serious toll on pets' internal organs and immune systems; and their problems become a never-ending vicious circle of medication and illness.

Its more than likely, that your veterinarian has prescribed and sold you some of these lethal concoctions for your precious pet/s. You may even be one of the increasing number of pet owners who have seen their pet have one or more of the following reactions within a short time of being given medication.

  • Twitching, convulsions and seizures.
  • Vomiting.
  • Lethargy.
  • Burnt and scared skin.
  • Vertigo.
  • Fevers and high temperatures.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Excessive salivation.
  • Poor appetite.

You may even be one of the unfortunate owners of one of the ever increasing number of dogs which have actually died from chemical flea and tick protection medications.

Caution

How to get rid of fleas

Recent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) research, indicates that 50% of American families use some type of chemical flea and tick control on their pets.

In so doing, they are unwittingly exposing millions of pets, kids and indeed themselves to toxic chemicals on a daily basis.

Plus there is a similar knock on effect for people who work in the pet industry, e.g. groomers and boarding kennels. If you are a member of one of these families, or you work in the pet industry, then you must watch the following video.

It is fair to say if 50% of American families are using chemical flea and tick control, then a similar yard stick can be applied to other countries, e.g. Canada, UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Pet death and pet illnesses due to adverse reactions to chemical flea and tick products

In the following video, as part of the federal Government's investigation of the safety of chemical pet control products, Chris May speaks to Cindy Tanghetti about the loss of her Golden Retriever; to Jan Jaffe about her dog requiring four blood transfusions; and Judy Waylen about her dog's hair loss and horrible crusty skin disease - all due to the use of various toxic chemical flea and tick control products.
